Parade: 26 Years Ago, Simon Cowell Passed on This Boy Band's Biggest Hit

Ashley Parker Angel of O-Town on MTV's TRL in 2001

In an exclusive Parade interview with Lauren Brown West-Rosenthal, Ashley Parker Angel reveals the unlikely backstory behind O-Town's biggest hit. Their multi-platinum 2001 power ballad All or Nothing was originally pitched to UK boy band Westlife — until Simon Cowell passed on it, and Clive Davis grabbed it for O-Town. The track went on to peak at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Mainstream Top 40.

Ashley also reflects on the song's lasting reach (hearing it in a Tokyo grocery store, fans recalling prom slow dances and “carpool karaoke” singalongs with their kids) and whether he'd ever return to the stage with O-Town, while currently focused on co-founding his wellness brand, High Level Science.
